Ben Ohau Views, The Apartment

A good stay close to Twizel township Positive: propoerty was an easy walk to Twizel centre and its excellent cafe's. Approx 40 minute drive to Mt Cook Village so it is far cheaper to stay in Twizel than Mount Cook. The apartment is modern and comfortable with facilities to cater for yourselves. The location is peaceful and it backs onto a quiet reserve. Negative: It could benefit from a lamp or two as the lights in the living area are very bright.

It maybe perfect for group less than 4 people. Positive: The house is warm and cosy. Negative: Relatively small for 4 people. Only three chairs at the dinning table. Only one bathroom with no storage. Hair dryer is in one of the bedrooms. Can hear people talking from neighbour property. Dead bumble bee on floor in the living room when we checked in.

Lovely little place on the outskirts of Twizel Positive: The apartment itself is just lovely, very comfortable and with everything you might need for an independent stay (kitchen, washing machine, etc). We did not meet the hosts--it's entirely self-managed--but the book of info about the apartment and about Twizel was really helpful. I can only assume that the view and the stargazing from the apartment are excellent, when it's not so cloudy you can barely manage to see the trees just outside. :( So I can't speak to the external value of the place, but the interior is really nice and genuinely comfortable. I could absolutely see taking an extended stay there. Negative: This sounds fiddly, but the instructions for check-in are written in the wrong order, which makes it a bit confusing to figure out how to get into the place. (Park, then walk, then keys from the lockbox, then enter the apartment.) Also, the apartment is unbelievably quiet UNTIL the small planes start taking off around 7:00 in the morning, which is disappointing if you're trying to sleep in. Otherwise, it's delightfully quiet!
